Crafted entirely from wood, the Kings Pencils are a set of ten hexagonal, non-toxic HB pencils that are long-lasting, lightweight and entirely organic. The first graphite pencils were created circa the year 1564 when graphite was first mined. It was made into sheets, sliced into rods and secured between pieces of wood to write. Originating in Cumbria, United Kingdom the first pencils were referred to as 'lead pencils' even though lead was not present within the pencil. Graphite, upon its discovery, was known as 'plumbago' or 'black lead' due to its similar consistency to lead, it was only centuries later it was discovered that the 'lead' was, in fact, graphite that consists of carbon and not lead.
